The McLaren Senna was the ultimate expression of the McLaren ‘form follows function’ design mantra. The detailed work that went into every aerodynamic element and to experience it all working together, is truly incredible. The Senna generates and maintains its aerodynamic performance to ensure the driver always has the confidence to explore the limits that such extreme downforce unlocks.

The McLaren Senna was designed and built as a race car – to perform on the track first and foremost. The active aerodynamics are still at the apex of innovation. The superb visibility achieved through the unique glazed doors provides total driver confidence. Relentless, fearless engineering effort led to the reassessment and re-evaluation of every component – no matter how small – to maximise performance. Carbon fibre was used for the monocoque, the body and anywhere which demanded lightness, rigidity and ultimate strength. The result was, at the time of its production, the lightest track-focussed vehicle McLaren Automotive had ever built.

When Ayrton Senna arrived at McLaren in 1988, he was an outstanding young driver – but not yet the complete champion and icon he would become during his time with the team. Aged 28, he was starting his fifth season in F1 with six wins under his belt. At McLaren, he would convert all that promise and potential into three World Drivers’ Championships.

Envisioned by Ayrton Senna before his untimely death, the charitable work of the Instituto Ayrton Senna (IAS) is a remarkable legacy for one of McLaren’s greatest racing drivers. Established in 1994 by his sister Viviane, six months after his fatal crash at the San Marino GP, the non-profit organisation now benefits up to 1.6 million children and young people in Brazil. On the racetrack he was one of the greatest drivers of all time, but his off-track achievements are arguably even greater. Thanks to the provision of comprehensive education, the IAS prepares the youth of Brazil to live in the 21st century and build a better future.
